Spend the Weekend with Other Bike Fans

Outerbike is the type of gathering for people who love mountain bikes. People who come to Outerbike are the people who care enough about their mountain bike to try as many bikes as they can before buying a new one.

If you’re one of those people, join us with your brethren in Mt. Crested Butte, ride some bikes, and drink some beer. Come with a group of friends (discounts available for groups larger than 6), or come on your own and make some new friends!

"Thank you for everything. It's not just that I've narrowed down which bike I am going to buy.  It's that I had the best riding adventure ever with some phenomenal people. Seriously, great job!” -Outerbike Participant

Test Bikes on our Favorite Summer Trails

We love our home in Moab, but our other favorite place to ride in the US is Crested Butte and the Gunnison Valley. Crested Butte was one of the birthplaces of the sport of mountain biking and they have been building trails there since the 1970s. That means that they have the largest and most varied trail network in the world: 750 miles in the Gunnison Valley as a whole.

While we don’t expect you to be able to do more than scratch the surface during the weekend of Outerbike, the good news is that surface includes some of our favorite trails in Crested Butte. Evolution Bike Park is unique among bike parks. While it features some tough downhill descents, it also offers some great lift-served cross country and some great trails from the base area that you can climb to test uphill performance on the bikes. If you want to ride some of the other Valley trails, a few classic cross-country routes that are easily accessed from the base area are also included in the event.

"This was our first Outerbike and it was fantastic!  The ability to demo different bikes on the same trails allowed us to compare things apples to apples, and is just awesome in every way.”- Previous Outerbike Participant

If you’re gearing up to buy a new bike, you’re getting ready to spend a good chunk of change on that purchase. You wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it. Likewise, you probably shouldn’t buy a new bike (which may even be worth more than your car if you’re like many of our friends in Crested Butte) without testing a bunch out first. We offer the opportunity to test out hundreds of bikes from dozens of brands in one weekend surrounded by awesome people in one of the greatest places on earth. Anyone buying a bike owes it to themselves to put the different brands through the wringer like that. So sign up below and join us in Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado August 18-20, 2017!

Getting to Mt. Crested Butte for Outerbike

Fly

The easiest way to get to Outerbike from far away is to fly into the Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport on daily flights from Denver in August. It's a short 35 minute drive or shuttle (our recommendation) from the airport to Mt. Crested Butte where Outerbike will be held.

Drive (Or Fly then Drive)

Directions:

No matter where you’re coming from, traveling to Crested Butte by car is a scenic and easy way to go. We have no doubt that you’ll be tempted to stop and take photos along the way—the views are breathtaking. And if you’re coming from the Front Range, we think your route will be a refreshing change from the traffic jams of the I-70 corridor. No bottlenecks and no toll lanes either! Drive time from Denver is 4 hours, and just under 4 hours from Colorado Springs.

From Denver:

From Denver International Airport, take I-70 West, then exit to CO-470 East towards Colorado Springs. Then exit US-285 South towards Fairplay. Continue on US-285, turning right onto US-50 West towards Monarch Pass. When you arrive in Gunnison, take a right onto Main Street (CO-135 North) towards Crested Butte.

From Arizona & Phoenix:

Take I-17 North to Flagstaff, then go North on US-89, then take US-160 East to Cortez.  Take CO-145 North to CO-62 East in Placerville towards Ridgeway.  In Ridgeway take US-550 North to Montrose, then take US-50 East to Gunnison.  When you arrive in Gunnison, take a left onto Main Street (CO-135 North) towards Crested Butte.

From Northern California & Utah:

Take I-80 east to Salt Lake City then take I-15 South to US-6 East towards Price.  Follow I-70 East to Grand Junction, then take US-50 East to Montrose.  In Montrose take a left to continue on US-50 East to Gunnison.  When you arrive in Gunnison, take a left on Main Street (CO-135 North) towards Crested Butte.

Note: Please use caution when using online map sites when traveling in the high country. While such services are outstanding in most areas, these sites may direct you over seasonal and 4WD only roads that may not be suitable for your vehicle.
